Enrique Lopez-Gomez, 20, of West Grove, is charged with third-degree murder, involuntary manslaughter, and related counts, according to the Chester County District Attorney's Office.
Authorities said they were called to a home on the 600 block of Cope Road around 11 p.m. Monday, June 24.
When they arrived, the child's mother brought him outside wrapped in a blanket and foaming from the mouth and nose, prosecutors said. He was bruised and had no pulse, authorities noted.
The child was taken to Nemours/A.I. DuPont Hospital and pronounced dead just after midnight. The DA's Office did not give his name or describe his relationship to the suspect.
An autopsy determined he died from of blunt force trauma to the abdomen, authorities said. Investigators believe Lopez-Gomez hit him, causing the injuries that led to his death.
The 20-year-old is being held on a $10 million bond and has a hearing scheduled for July 12.
“Due to incredible teamwork, made an arrest in this case," said Southern Chester County Regional Police Chief Joesph Greenwalt.
"I want to thank the Chester County Detectives and Kennett Township Police Department for their partnership. Together, we were able to get a semblance of justice for this child."
“This tragic murder could not have been solved without the work of everyone involved," said Kennett Township Police Chief Matthew Gordon.
"I’m proud of the quick response by our patrol officers and the teamwork by all the detectives."
